Jane Bond Nassar

Jane Bond Brannon Nassar, 75, died December 5th in her home of 42 years from complications related to her pancreatic cancer.

Jane was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 26, 1943 to Anna Margaret Bond and Dr. Emmett Smyer Brannon. She soon moved with her family to Rome, Georgia which is where she spent her formative years and where, with the encouragement of her parents, she developed a deep passion for gardening. After graduating from East Rome High School, Jane moved to Atlanta to study Biology at Agnes Scott College. After her 1965 college graduation, Jane met her future husband and soulmate, Dr. Victor Nassar at Grady Memorial Hospital where he was a physician and she was a Laboratory Technician. They married 3 years later, June 15, 1968 in Rome Georgia at the First Presbyterian Church. After the wedding, they lived in Baltimore, Maryland, and New York City before eventually moving to Beirut Lebanon where she gave birth to their sons Paul and Tim. As the first sparks of the pending civil war in Lebanon began to ignite, the young family moved back to Atlanta, Georgia. Her love for gardening and nature was strong. She passionately studied botany at the University of Georgia and quickly became a Master Gardener. She filled her yard with specimen roses and daylilies eventually deciding to fill in her backyard pool to make room for more roses! Her days have always been filled with blossoming life and love in her award-winning home garden.

She leaves behind her husband Victor; sons, Paul and Tim and his wife, Carly, and their children, Melanie Jane and Haytham Victor; brother, Robert Brannon; sister-in-law, Daria Brannon; nieces, Laura Guinn and Melanie Brannon; and great-nephew, Peter Guinn. She also leaves behind her most beloved cat “Rudy”.

Though her soul is now in heaven, her heart will always be with ours in the “deep end” of her rose garden.

Visitation with the Nassar family will be held at Saint Elias Church 12/6 from 5:00 until 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be held at Saint Elias Church 12/7 at 11:00am with a burial to follow at Decatur Cemetery.
