Mr. Joel W. Cooper, Sr., 78 of Stone Mountain, died Saturday, July 18, 2009. He served his country during the Korean War in the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Cooper was a graduate of Georgia Teachers College, now known as Georgia Southern University. He served as principal of Cochran High School. Mr. Cooper was a member of Gate City Lodge #2 F & AM and of the Shrine Chanters. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, the Seekers Sunday School class and the Chancel Choir. He retired as a salesman for McGraw-Hill Textbooks. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Rev. Lewis Miller and Rev. Rick Marson will officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
