John Carey Kidd Ii

John Carey Kidd, II, 78, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019. He was born on June 11, 1940, to Charles Beverly Kidd and Mary Eleanor Barlow Kidd in Gadsden, AL, and spent his childhood in Hartwell, GA.

A graduate of Hart County High School, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, he received a commission in the United State Army. He served tours of duty as a logistics officer in Germany, Vietnam, Korea, Fort Meade, The Tank Automotive Command Center, Fort Lee and Fort Benning. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. After returning to Atlanta, Carey became a Certified Purchasing Manager, worked as a buyer at Rich’s, and received an MBA from Georgia State University.

Carey was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Parish, Decatur, GA, and a member of The Brotherhood of St. Andrew.

Married nearly 50 years, he is survived by his wife, Joan Rucker Kidd, his sons, John (Theresa) and Joel (Liz) and daughter, Mary Ward (Chris), grandchildren Sydney and Jake Kidd, Bobby, Eli, and Charlotte Kidd, Charlie, Maggie, Bridget, and Sarah Ward. Also surviving are sister, Mary Jackson of Hartwell and Billy Kidd of Hartwell.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Parish, Decatur, GA. A reception will follow in the parish hall.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Holy Trinity Parish, 515 East Ponce de Leon Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030.
