John Dewitt Counts

John DeWitt Counts, age 48, of Decatur, GA unexpectedly passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019.

A native of Decatur, John was born December 3, 1970, to the late DeWittt B. "Rusty" Counts and Mrs. Charlotte Brown Counts. John was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Druid Hills High School and attended DeKalb County Junior College.

He joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in November 2013. John loved his country and was proud of serving tours of duty, including Germany, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. He had a special place in his heart for his fellow soldiers and stayed in contact with all that he could. John will be sorely missed. He was a dutiful son, friend to all and will be remembered for his kind-heartedness, warmth and sense of humor.

John is survived by his mother, Charlotte Counts; aunts, Kitty Swanson of Simpsonville, SC and Beth Brown of Rio Rancho, NM; uncles, Steven D. Counts of Rock Hill, S.C. and Charles W. Brown of Maryville, TN; and numerous cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life Services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:00 am in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons, 2773 N Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA 30033. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 am, prior to the services.

Private interment will follow at Melwood Cemetery, Stone Mountain, Georgia.
