Karen Harper Mcmichael

November 12, 1958 — August 7, 2020

Karen Harper McMichael died suddenly on August 7, 2020. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jeffery N. McMichael and their son, Ian Harper McMichael; her brothers Michael E. Harper; David W. Harper and his wife Angelia; and Marc R. Harper.

Karen spent her childhood years in Decatur, GA. In 1970 her family moved to Savannah where she graduated from Sol C Johnson High School in 1976. She returned to Atlanta to attend Georgia State University, where she met her future husband on the very first day of college.

Karen's career led her to the Friends School of Atlanta. She started as a volunteer, and soon joined the administrative staff, providing caring support for all things technical and much more. She was absolutely devoted to the mission and values of the school and her Light shone through in the infinite ways she served FSA. She retired in 2018 and moved with her husband to Oregon, to fulfill a long time dream of retiring there to pursue her many creative pursuits such as making jewelry, writing, and formulating tinctures. They had returned briefly to Decatur and were preparing their home for sale at the time of her death.

A private memorial service was held with close family.

Karen loved the Friends School of Atlanta--the people and the guiding principles. If you feel the need for a tribute or memorial, please consider giving to the Friends School. https://friendsschoolatlanta.org/support-us/ways-to-give/
