Katherine Ann Smith

January 17, 1951 — October 28, 2019

Kathy Smith of Stone Mountain, Georgia, died on October 28, 2019 after a brief journey with cancer.
Kathy was born on January 17, 1951 in Lafayette, Indiana to Virginia and Al Ball (both deceased).
She was raised and educated in the Hoosier State. Kathy moved to metro Atlanta in 1978, but remained close to her Indiana family; her sister, Janet Poulimas, and her nieces, Emily Crawford and Megan Neuhardt.
Kathy taught music in the public schools for 38 years, primarily in Gwinnett County, Georgia. She performed as a professional harpist for special occasions throughout her life.
Kathy is survived by her children’s father, Jim Smith of Lawrenceville, and her son, Travis Smith of Tucker. Travis and his wife, Julie, are parents to Kathy’s beautiful grandson, Daniel.
Kathy enjoyed teaching, the visual/performing arts, entertaining, and being outdoors in her garden or on the trail.
The absolute greatest joy and love of Kathy’s life was for her family, particularly her sons.
There will be a memorial service, interment, and reception at North Decatur Presbyterian Church, 611 Medlock Road, Decatur, GA 30033, on Saturday, November 2nd at 11:00 AM.
A lifelong Presbyterian, Kathy requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the ministries of NDPC, her final church home.
