Katherine Frances Phenix

June 21, 1938 — March 4, 2021

Katherine Frances (Haavie) Phenix, age 82, of Decatur, GA transitioned to her eternal life on March 4, 2021. Frances is all we could have ever asked for in a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Born and raised in Cedartown, GA, Frances attended college at North Georgia College and then University of Georgia where she obtained a degree in education. She went on to teach in the Fulton County School system at West Fulton High School. Frances met her husband of 59 years, Rees Phenix, in Atlanta in 1961, and married in June 1962. She was the mother of three children, David Phenix (Leesa), Katherine Phenix, and Billy Phenix (Joy) and sister to Betsy Haavie Perry of Newnan, GA. She also was the adored grandmother to four wonderful grandchildren: Tyler (Marci), Katie, Ansley and Ellie.
Once she settled in Decatur, Frances loved to travel, scrapbook, garden, and create anything that involved a needle and thread. Through her years, she invested countless hours volunteering for her kids’ schools, sports teams, hospital auxiliaries, garden clubs, and at Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Her golden days were spent at her beloved Lake Burton, enjoying good friends, beloved family, and the community of Clayton First United Methodist Church in Clayton, GA where she enjoyed singing in the choir each week.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Katherine Haavie of Cedartown, GA, her sister, Dorothy Haavie of Atlanta, GA, and grandson Joshua Phenix of East Cobb, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Clayton First United Methodist Church (Clayton, GA). See memorial contributions below for link.
