Kathleen Elizabeth Wolcott Bashor

Kathleen Elizabeth Wolcott Bashor, 59, formerly of Rutland, Vermont, died unexpectedly of natural causes in Portland, Oregon, on April 8, 2016, while visiting her grandchildren and daughter-in-law. Katie was born on December 4, 1956, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Wolcott. After graduating from the University of Vermont in 1978, Katie moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she met Mark Bashor. The two were married in August of 1983. Mark and Katie had two children: Ryan Bashor, born in October 1984, and Jessie Bashor, born in January 1987.

Katie worked for 18 years as a health and physical education paraprofessional at Fernbank Elementary School in Decatur, Georgia, where she was fondly known as "Coach Bashor." Her enthusiasm and love for education and children were evident in all she did, and her optimistic nurturing demeanor made a positive mark on many children who will benefit greatly from having loved and been loved by Coach Bashor.

Most of all, Katie Bashor will be remembered for her love, devotion and commitment to family, friends and community. She lived her life by example, pouring her heart, soul and family into service for the homeless. With her husband, Mark, together they gave 34 years of service to Central Night Shelter, ending in a 16-year tenure as executive director. Her passion and advocacy to social justice and mercy has inspired and motivated others through works with allied organizations. The gifts and actions of both Katie and Mark have been recognized through countless awards, inspiring others toward work with the homeless.

Survivors include her husband, Mark Bashor, daughter, Jessie Bashor, son-in-law, Cathal Doyle, grandson Liam Doyle, of Atlanta Georgia; daughter-in law, Rachael Bashor, granddaughter, Jocie Bashor, grandson Owen Bashor of Portland, Oregon; her mother, Elizabeth Wolcott of Moscow, Idaho; three sisters, Marnie Wolcott Davis of Shelburne, Vermont, Becky Wolcott Ankeny of Deephaven, Minnesota, Debby (Scott) Wolcott Wetterhall of Atlanta, Georgia; a brother, Michael (Lisa) Wolcott of Moscow, Idaho; and 8 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, George Wolcott, and her son, Ryan Bashor.

A memorial service celebrating the love Katie shared for her family and friends will be held at
the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday, April 23 at 11 a.m. A reception
will follow immediately after the service at Central Presbyterian Church, which is adjacent to the
Shrine. In lieu of flowers, the Bashor family requests donations go to Ryan's Run, a
fundraising event for the work of Central Night Shelter. For more information about Ryan's Run
