Leila Langford Martin

April 21, 1925 — May 25, 2008

Carolyn Langford Martin, age 82, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008, at her home in Atlanta, Georgia. Carolyn was born Apri1 21, 1925, in Tate, Georgia, to her parents Mary Sims Langford and Clyde Langford. She married Dr. Edmund Martin and lived in several north Georgia towns, including Cartersville, before settling in Atlanta. Carolyn retired from teaching after 35 years, having touched the lives of many children in Jackson, Hart, Bartow, and Dekalb Counties. In addition to teaching elementary school, she enjoyed gardening, keeping one of the most beautiful yards in her neighborhood and growing the best tomatoes, which she generously shared with her neighbors. She attended Briarlake Baptist Church and loved socializing with her Sunday School class until she could no longer leave her home. Most important to Carolyn, however, was her family. She is survived by her two children--a daughter, Barbara Joan Hill, and her husband, Loren Hill; and a son, Edmund Martin, Jr., and his wife, Diane Martin. She is also survived by her three grandchildren-granddaughter Jennifer Hill Slater, and her husband, Michael Slater; grandson Edmund Daniel Martin and his wife, Leslie Martin; and granddaughter Christina Martin. Other survivors include her two sisters, Louise Langford and Betty Brown. The family would like to thank all those who sent cards and visited Carolyn during her homebound years. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon May 28th at 2PM at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening May 27th from 6 until 8PM at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033.
