Leonard Ross Gray, Sr., of Atlanta, passed away quietly at home on April 22, 2012 after a long illness, at the age of 80. He was born in Lafayette, Georgia on September 27, 1931, the only son of Lon and Ethel Gray, and grew up in the City of Lafayette in Walker County, Georgia, until leaving to attend college. He was in the service with the U.S. Army during the early fifties. Mr. Gray attended the University of Georgia, and graduated from the business school at the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia, now known as Georgia State University, in 1955. He was a member of Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. He was employed before retirement as a Sales Manager for the Champion Spark Plug Company for approximately 30 years, traveling throughout the South as a Regional Manager, and worked after retirement for several years preparing tax returns for the H and R Block Company. After his retirement, Mr. Gray was a trusted advisor, valued assistant and handyman to his children and their growing families and households. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren as the extended family grew over the years. He also enjoyed returning often to his hometown of Lafayette, while caring for and visiting relatives and engaging in home and farm upkeep on his Walker County property. He possessed a very good sense of humor and encouraging attitude. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Louise Proctor Gray, formerly of Chattanooga, TN, his three sons, his daughter and their families: son Leonard R.
