Lillian M. Steele

November 24, 1916 — August 3, 2008

Lillian went to heaven on August 3, 2008 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born in Arkansas, daughter of the late Lilah Ford and John Randal Morgan, she had one sister, Eugenia Smoak McLane who preceded her in death. Lillian married the love of her life, Fred “Skip” Steele in 1933 and although they had no children they loved all children and shared many fun times with their friends’ children. Skip preceded her in death in 1979. Lillian was a loyal friend to all and leaves behind many special friends including Mrs. Sam (Frances) Jordan, Mrs. Carol Rowe, Mr. James Knight and his children, Jason and Jennifer, her “adopted” godchildren of Mrs. Sam (Frances) Jordan, Mr. Samuel D. (Virginia) Jordan, Mr. Steven B. (Peggy) Jordan, and Mrs. Jeanneane Byram Smith. Lillian was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Decatur. She retired from civil service with the U. S. Army at Fort McPherson and received many awards for outstanding service while employed there. Lillian was a faithful and active member of the Order of Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, August 6th at 10:00 AM at the First Christian Church of Decatur with the Reverend Dr. James L. Brewer-Calvert officiating. Private interment Westview Cemetery. Lillian’s request was that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the First Christian Church of Decatur, 601 West Ponce de Leon, Decatur, GA 30030. Friends are invited to a reception to celebrate Lillian’s life following the service at the church.   A.
