Lloyd Ambrose Busch, Iii

August 1, 1944 — November 23, 2021

Lloyd Busch age 77 passed away on November 23, 2021 from complications of a stroke he suffered in March 2020. He is survived by his former wife Rosemary, the Olsen family, his “adopted daughter” Natalia and many loving friends and colleagues.
Lloyd was born in Pittsburgh, but considered Fredericksburg, Virginia, where he spent much of his youth, to be his hometown. Lloyd graduated from the University of Virginia in 1966. After several moves, schools and part time jobs, Lloyd came to Emory University in Atlanta for graduate school in the early 1970’s and he never left.
Lloyd began working at the Woodruff Library some 35 years ago. He worked in several different roles before ending up in Reference, a job he was born to do. The library was an important part of his life and identity. He delighted in his work and treasured his relationships with his colleagues.
Lloyd is perhaps best known for his work as the judge and academic advisor for the high school quiz show High Q on WSB TV. He was constantly researching, writing and asking questions. He always carried a little notebook with him to jot down observations and ideas for questions. Lloyd enjoyed working with students and felt connected to his WSB family.
If you would like to do so, you can honor Lloyd’s memory by donating to the Salvation Army, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, the Atlanta Union or the Atlanta Humane Society.
