Marjorie Eloise King

September 13, 1925 — April 1, 2013

Marjorie Self King passed quietly away in the wee hours of the morning of April 1 in the Lawrenceville Area of Atlanta. She had been a resident of Sunrise at Five Forks for twenty seven months. Born in Greensboro, NC in 1925, she was the second of four children of Luther and Annie Self. At nineteen, Marjorie married her childhood sweetheart, Jack R. Amos who was killed in action only months after going into combat in WWII. She had one child by that marriage, Jack L. Amos. The following year she completed college at what is now UNC-G with a 4.0 GPA. she remarried two years later after meeting Fred T. (Tom) Wallace in Atlanta. The had four children, Janice L. Wallace, Fred T. (Tom) Wallace, Jr., John S. Wallace and Scott A. Wallace. Fred passed away in 1965 leaving her with four children at home and one in college. Marjorie taught nutrition diet therapy in the School of Nursing at Grady Memorial Hospital and was voted teacher of the year by her students and colleagues for many consecutive years. When the nursing program closed, she moved into the Food Services Department of Grady until her retirement. Marjorie married James King in 1973. When he passed away in 1990, she retired and returned to her hometown of Greensboro. She and her sister, Clare, traveled together to many unique and exciting locations until health issues became a problem. She returned to Atlanta in 2011 to be near three of her children who were living in the Atlanta area. She is survived by all five of her children and their extended families and her sister, Clara S. Ozment of Greensboro, NC. Marjorie's inner beauty, her difficult life and her unique ability to rise above trying circumstances and consequences have been inspirational to all who knew her.
