Martha Kate Buchanan Deloach

March 5, 1922 — April 16, 2007

Martha Kate Buchanan DeLoach (known to many as Kathryn) died on Monday, April 16 in the comfort care of Metropolitan Hospice in Marietta, Ga. She was born and raised in Grayson, Ga and for many years was a resident of Decatur, Ga. where she raised her family. She lived for several years in Snellville following the death of her husband in 1994, and most recently in Marietta, Ga where she lived with her children, as she dealt with Dementia/Alzheimer's in her final years. She was the widow of Leon Ernest DeLoach originally of Statesboro. They met in Atlanta, Ga in 1941 as she rode the streetcar he conducted to work each day. They married soon thereafter and made Decatur their long time home. Their children are a daughter, Sybil Louise DeLoach Green, two Sons Charles Leon and Richard Ernest DeLoach, 3 Grandchildren - Angela Kay, Cynthia Green and Douglas Green and 1 Great-granddaughter -Georgia Caroline Kay. For many years Mrs. DeLoach was a well-known seamstress in the Decatur area and made numerous long time friends as a result of that talent. She was always active in her church -Decatur First Baptist and later in Druid Hills Baptist where she served as the first female Chairman of the Board of Deacons and was called by some "the finest Chairman they ever had". In recent days she became a member of Papermill Road Baptist Church in Marietta. She had numerous jobs throughout her life, as a telephone operator, first for Southern Bell, later at Ft. McPherson and at the end of her career she retired from The Veterans Administration Hospital, a job which she thoroughly enjoyed and, once again where she served well and made many lasting friendships. Only her Lord knows the many sacrifices and service deeds she willingly did during her life with a servant's attitude in the spirit of caring for others. Mrs. DeLoach will be buried beside her husband in the Decatur Cemetery on Saturday, April 21st. A memorial service is planned at A.S. Turner & Sons' Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of floral arrangements, as you may desire, please consider a donation to either the Alzheimer's Assn. or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, on behalf of her Great-Granddaughter. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
