Martha Walker Andrews

Martha 0. Andrews, age 92, departed this life on November 25,2009. On November 19, 2009 she suffered a severe stroke and was admitted to Peachtree Christian Hospice under the compassionate care and leadership of United Hospice in Duluth, Georgia. Martha was born in Macon, Georgia, January 24, 1917. Her father, the late Dr. Stephen was a Methodist minister and later president of Andrew College; and her Mother was the late Jessie Flanders Olliff. The former Martha Olliff received a diploma from Andrew (Junior) College, and certificates in piano, voice, art and drama; an A.B. degree from Wesleyan College, and M.A. degree from Duke University in Religious Education. Upon graduation she taught at Andrew School and Jordan High School in Columbus, Georgia. While teaching in Columbus, she met and later married the late Lieutenant Colonel Max N. Andrews, who was then a Lieutenant stationed at Fort Benning in Columbus. They were married December 23, 1942. Mrs. Andrews held a government position in Washington, DC while her husband was overseas in World War II.  They lived in Manistee, Michigan for two years, and settled in Decatur, Georgia in 1949, where he owned the Andrews Popcorn Company and later the SunX Glass Coating Company of Georgia. Martha was long active in church, school and community affairs.  In 1957, she had a conversion experience which transformed her life completely, feeling that she had a call to devote her life to Christian-patriotic causes. From 1960 until recent years, she edited and published a Christian-patriotic newsletter, “The Voice of Liberty.” which had circulation in all 50 states and 15 foreign countries. She wrote a book on Biblical Prophecy, produced numerous articles and pamphlets, taught Bible classes and seminars, and put on Bible Conferences proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom.  Mrs. Andrews was active in the GracePoint Nazarene Church in Loganvil1e, Georgia. For many years she was the president of the Atlanta Chapter of the National Health Federation. Twice she ran as a candidate for the Georgia House of Representatives. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Max and Laura Andrews of Dacula, Gary and Carol Andrews of Lawrenceville; a sister, Leona Ruth Olliff Phillips of Franklin, Virginia; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Her dying wish was that all her loved ones and friends come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, who meant so much to her.  Funeral services will be at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 North Decatur Road in Decatur on Saturday, November 28 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Paul Canen and her son Max Andrews.  A graveside service will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions to the Martha Andrews Memorial Fund, 1980 Alder Tree Way, Dacula, GA  30019.

The family will receive friends from 4:30-7:30 PM Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
