Marvin Frank Stutts

Mr. Marvin Frank Stutts of Atlanta, GA died Saturday, May 12, 2007. He was a native of Laurinburg, NC. He is predeceased by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Marvin A. Stutts of Rock Hill, SC, his brother, Lt. Col. (Ret) Martin L. Stutts, and his sister, Mrs. Lillian Stutts Patterson. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Clare Gramling Stutts of Atlanta, GA, his daughter, Rosanne Stutts of Augusta, GA and his brother, James E. Stutts and wife Lee of Augusta, GA. He worked for the Munford Corporation (formerly the Atlantic Ice and Coal Co.) in a managerial capacity for 43 years before retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of World War II and served with the 41st Special U.S. Navy Seabee Battalion in the South Pacific arena. After the war was over, he helped organize the 41st Special USNCB Veterans at-Large and had a reunion each year somewhere in the United States. He was the commander of this group for 20 years. At the request of the National USNCB Veterans of America, he organized the first Seabee Unit in Georgia in 1982. The initial meeting was held at the Riviera on Peachtree, January 23, 1983 and it was charted in March of that year as Island X-1 Atlanta. He was elected the first commander of the new unit and over the years served in all capacities. Frank was a long time member of the Lions Club of America, a past president of The Northlake Lions Club, with a special interest in promoting the Georgia Lighthouse program for the blind. He was a member of the Atlanta Men's Garden Club and worked diligently for their Skyland project. He was an active member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church since he, his wife Clare and daughter Rosanne moved to Atlanta in 1965 by being a member of the United Methodist Men and holding offices in the Fellowship Class. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 15th in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Rev. Lewis Miller and Dr. Dan Rice will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
