Mary Clair Sims

May 7, 1926 — November 23, 2010

Mary Clair Sims, age 84, of Decatur, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, November 23rd at Vista Hospice at Emory Midtown. Clair was the daughter of William A. Sims, Sr. and Alice Allen Sims. She was preceded in death by three brothers;  Hal Sims, William A. Sims, Jr. a former Georgia House of Representative and Dr. S. Eugene Sims,  a former General Surgeon at Crawford Long Hospital;  and one sister, Beverly Sims Moore;  all of Atlanta.   She leaves behind to cherish her wonderful memories:  her sister-in-law, Mrs. Rose Sims of Smyrna, Ga. and the following nieces and nephews: William A. Sims, III., Margaret Moore Lee, and Jennifer Sims Rourke all of Smyrna, Ga., Karen Sims Solana of Pensacola, Fl, Joan Sims Hill of Woodstock, Ga., Lynda Moore Mohan of Scottsdale, AZ, Michelle Moore Williams of Slidell, LA, Stephen Sims of San Diego, CA and Virginia Sims Glover of Exchange, WV. Carrying on her legacy of kindness and caring towards others are 22 great nieces and nephews, all of whom were very close to her. She is also survived by childhood friend Mrs. Norma Echols Harris and a multitude of other friends that remember her for her kindness, charity, unwavering integrity, sense of style, humor and radiant smile. Clair was retired from the Coca Cola Company after 47 years with the company in the Advertising and Marketing Department.  Clair managed the local advertising and sports marketing campaigns particularly the Sports Illustrated, Super Bowl and NCAA Basketball center spreads. Clair was the first woman with the company to be promoted from a secretarial position to management level. In retirement Clair spent much of her time outdoors tending to her flower garden, taking long walks and enjoying the sunshine. Clair thoroughly enjoyed dining with family and friends at neighborhood restaurants and cafes. Clair was a long time member of the   Druid Hills Presbyterian Church. Clair was a native of Atlanta, residing in Decatur, Ga. for much of her life. Her childhood home is now the site of the Jimmy Carter Library. The family of Clair Sims would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Byron Williams, Jr., Kara Botters, NP, Azalee Vaughn, Lynn Murphy, and Beverly Lee for taking such loving care of Clair. Clair's life will be celebrated by receiving friends on Saturday, November 27th at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home between the hours of 9 am to 11 am followed by a graveside service at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, November 27th at 12 noon.  Contributions can be made to the charity of choice in Clair's honor or to the American Heart Association.  A.
