Mary Elizabeth Kelley Fussell born December 9, 1915, in Rockwood, Tennessee, daughter of Ethel Lurie Coleman Kelley and Arthur Ward Kelley died Friday, November 26, 2010 at her daughter's home in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Mary - also known as 'Tig'- was predeceased by 2 sisters and 1 brother: Thelma Virginia Kelley White, Arthur Ward "Buddy" Kelley, Jr., Dyllis Valgene Kelley Lucas Purdie. Her brother Ernest Stanton Kelley lives in Seminole, Florida. Her beloved and devoted husband of 68 years Colonel James Glen Fussell preceded her in death on April 17, 2005. Mary is survived by her son James G. 'Chip' Fussell, Jr. and wife Karen of Orrington, Maine, daughter Mary Margaret Fussell Dykes and husband Bobby of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Grandchildren: James G. Fussell, III of Raleigh, NC, Genevieve Elizabeth Fussell of Brooklyn, NY, Samuel Hawkins Dykes of Cedar City, Utah, Delia Johnson Dykes of Augusta, Georgia, Charles John Fussell and Suzanne Mary Fussell of Orrington, Maine and her many loving nieces and nephews. Mary Fussell supported her husband's Air Force career for 30 years living in Alaska, throughout the US, in Japan and the Philippines. Mary and Glen retired in Harrison, Tennessee in 1969 where they were extremely active in family and civic life including the Chattanooga Exchange Club and The Retired Officer's Association. Mary was a dedicated Mother and Grandmother, an avid reader, thinker, philosopher, seamstress, gourmet cook, magnificent dancer and exceptional friend. She served as Red Cross coordinator and as a volunteer hospital 'Gray Lady' on many Air Force assignments and too much more to recount here. A graveside service and burial will be at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 11:30 A.M. Mary was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
