Mary Evelyn Tomlin

Mary Evelyn Tomlin, 65, of Stone Mountain, died March 24, 2013. She was born in Wilkinson County, Mississippi, just south of Natchez. Her parents were Viola and Delos Day. They, and their ancestors, have lived in this area since the early 1800s—before Mississippi became a state. She was educated in the public schools in Wilkinson County and Natchez. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1969 with a degree in history and received a master's degree in 1971 In 1971, she moved to Jackson, Mississippi, where she began her archival career. Except for a brief stint as Assistant Director of the University Press of Mississippi, her entire career was spent archives and records management. In Jackson she met her future husband, Ronald E. Tomlin. They were married for 31 years before his death in 2005. A special blessing in their lives was the adoption of a beautiful daughter, Emily Elisabeth. She is now and always will be their pride and joy and a delight. She is survived by a daughter Emily Elisabeth Tomlin of Atlanta, a brother James D. Day (Beverly) of Tampa, Florida, sister-in-laws, Peggy Pauling (Tom) of Columbus, Ohio and Frances Tomlin of Lake Mary, FL, nephews James Day, Jr of Ft. Worth, Texas and Benjamin Day (Dana) of Portland, Oregon, Brad Pauling (Alicia) of Columbus, Ohio, and Jeff Tomlin (Athena) of Lake Mary, FL, nieces Alicia Martensen (Nick) of Columbus, Ohio, and Jennifer Chittum (Dan) of Maitland, FL. The funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. Mary Evelyn will be buried next to her husband at a later date in Woodville, MS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Child Development Program, Frazer Center, 1815 S. Ponce de Leon Ave, Atlanta, GA 30307. The family will receive friends 6-8 Monday evening at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
