Mary Jo "Jody" Harrison

April 4, 1946 — June 14, 2016

Jody expired at Piedmont Hospital at 12:49 AM June 14, 2016, after a prolonged battle with heart disease. Jody - known by her grandchildren as "Precious" was born April 4, 1946 in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Terry Martin and Paul Cody Langston. She grew up in Gulfport, Mississippi, and moved to Gainesville, Georgia, in 1962, graduating from high school. She graduated from GA Baptist School of Nursing and then worked in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit then with Doctors Poole & Waters private pediatric practice until children came into the family.

Jody is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dr. Eugene Harrison; daughter, Sadie Elmore and her husband, David, of Jacksonville, Florida; son, Michael Langston Harrison, of Baltimore, Maryland; granddaughter Coleigh Elmore; grandson, Harrison Elmore, Miller Langston Harrison, and William Eugene Harrison; sisters, Carlene Robinson and her husband, Carl, Patricia Lovett and her husband, Chris; brothers, Paul Mac Langston, Frank Langston and his wife, Liz, and Danny Langston and his wife, Tammy; step-mother, Jeanette Langston Smith and her husband, Harbert; along with a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Jody was active in her church and school activities when children were in school. She was a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, started the skating program at Glenn Methodist Church, started the Parents Club at Brenau Academy and Club 90 at Park Springs. She was an assistant venue manager for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and was active in the Stone Mountain Woman's Club. She guided tours of Atlanta with 'Presenting Atlanta'. When Michael left for college, she became interested in art and became very competent, winning 1st prize in some competitions.

The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday 18 June 2016 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at A.S. Turner & Son Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur. There will be a Mass at St. Thomas More Church followed by a reception at 633 W. Ponce de Leon Avenue, Decatur, GA, at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, 21 June 2016.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Park Springs Foundation for scholarships or to St. Thomas More School.
