Mildred Hatchett Bingham

November 19, 1909 — January 17, 2009

Mildred Fulton Hatchett Bingham, born November 9, 1909 in Danville, Virginia, died in Atlanta January 17, 2009. Reared and educated in Virginia, Mrs. Bingham was a graduate of The University of North Carolina.



 



Mrs. Bingham was the widow of Thomas W. Bingham. Mr. Bingham was the founder and first Executive Director of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation.



 



Mrs. Bingham moved to Atlanta in 1941. She was associated with The American Red Cross during World War II and post-war years. She was a continuous member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation. She authored the book “Glitter From The Dark” which celebrated her husband’s life as a champion of the blind.



 



Mrs. Bingham will be remembered for her wit, optimism, ingenuity, and determination. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009, 2:30 pm at St. Mark United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, consider contributions to The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, 1775 Clairmont Rd, Decatur, Ga.30003 or St. Mark United Methodist Church, 781 Peachtree St., Atlanta, Ga. 30308.
