Nancie Lou Sill

September 3, 1940 — November 6, 2014

Nancie Lou Sill, 74, of Decatur Georgia passed away on Thursday, November 6th, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Nancie was born September 3rd, 1940 in Flushing New York to the late Chester Sill and Nancy Alexander Sill. She was the oldest of three sisters, the late Sandy Smink and Candy Parlee. Nancie is survived by her friend and longtime partner, Sherry L. Adams of Atlanta Georgia, her sister, Candy Parlee of Clearwater Florida, nieces and nephews Derek Parlee of Clearwater, Kelly Smink of Atlanta, and Jeff Smink of Las Vegas Nevada, and her pets Aimee, Blossom, Molly, and Miss July. Nancie graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Florida State University with a Bachelor's of Science degree. When her interested changed from medical technology, Nancie's career centered on managerial and executive roles in the field of Information Technology with companies such as EDS and then as an executive with Coca-Cola Enterprises. She was instrumental in the Data Security effort for Year 2000 Greater Europe Project. Nancie had many interests in life particularly for photography and travel. She even became a travel agent after her retirement from Coke. As a youth, her first journey was hitchhiking through Paris and Europe with her father's older model camera. Later through business, for pleasure, and to be with friends, she enjoyed both close-by trips and faraway lands on five continents. Nancie loved animals and her favorite pet schnauzer "Amie" was most often by her side. Her favorite vehicle was her "Smart Car" in which she used to "zip" around Decatur with its revolving wind-up key on the back. Nancie volunteered at the Decatur Church of the Epiphany. Her art and photography exhibits have included showings at Emory, Mercer, Decatur Visitor's Center, numerous local libraries and churches. She later joined as a volunteer at the Decatur Visitor's center because of its delightful staff. She was a loyal member of the Clairemont Garden Club, Southeastern Photography Club, Atlanta Humane Society, Friends of Decatur Cemetery, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, High Museum of Atlanta, and her local Cancer Support Group. In 2010 she was awarded the coveted "Decatur Hometown Hero Award". Nancie was a hero in so many ways! Thank you Nancie for your love and contribution to the lives of many. You lived your life graciously and courageously. By inspiring and teaching us, you won your battle in many significant ways. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 15th at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany in Decatur Georgia, officiated by Rev. Benno Pattison, with a luncheon reception at the church to follow. A private graveside service for the family will be held at the Decatur Memorial Cemetery following the reception. Please call the Church of the Epiphany (404) 373-8338 for more information. In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made in Nancie's name to charity of your choice.
