Nancy Barbara Bridges

December 2, 1930 — January 16, 2015

Nancy Barbara Bridges,84, passed away on Jan.16th after a long time illness.. Nancy was born in Blakely, Georgia to parents Don and Ruth Bridges. The family moved to Atlanta and Decatur and she graduated from Decatur Girls High School and the University of Georgia. Taking courses in Medical Tech-nology, Nancy became an extraordinary Med Tech, training many people in the field while she was head of the Hematology Lab at Grady Hospital. Leaving Grady she finished her career at CDC from which she retired in 1992. A long time member of The First Baptist Church of Decatur where she taught Sunday School, Nancy also sang with the Decatur Civic Chorus for over 60 years. Nancy's love of horses led her to design her dream retirement home - a 12 acre Spanish style horse ranch in Conyers Georgia where she maintained a stable of 4 horses. Traveling around the world was also a passion - with her long time friend and companion Mary Anne Sharp or with the Decatur Civic Chorus - Nancy traveled 5 times to Europe, toured every state in the U.S.A. including Hawaii and Alaska, all the islands in the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, and South America including a trip to Manchu Picchu. While singing with the Decatur Civic Chorus, she loved performing in Carnegie Hall in New York and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Known affectionately by her family as Barba, she is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Bob Woodson of Stone Mountain, nephew Scott Woodson and his wife Carrie of Kennesaw, niece Ruth Claire Jernigan and her husband Scott of McDonough, Joy Cook and her husband Gary of McDonough, 1 great niece and 5 great nephews, and long time friend, Mary Anne Sharp. A private burial will be held at the Decatur Cemetery on Monday, Jan. 19th at 1:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at A S Turner and Sons Chapel on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2:00 PM, with a reception to follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Decatur Civic Chorus, P O Box 1361, Decatur, Ga. 30031 Or First Baptist Church of Decatur, 308 Clairemont Ave., Decatur 30030.
