Pansy Belle Hardman Armistead

October 6, 1922 — June 15, 2012

Pansy Belle Hardman Armistead, formerly of Norcross, Georgia, and Decatur, Georgia, passed away at the Capital Caring Hospice in Arlington Va., on June 15, 2012, following an extended period of declining health. Pansy was born October 6, 1922, in Orangeburg, SC, the daughter of William Parks Hardman and Julia Maughan (both deceased). She graduated from Memminger High School in Charleston SC, and from Rice Business College. She was employed as a stenographer by the FBI in Atlanta, Georgia, where she met her husband-to-be, Chester Cayes Armistead. They were married in 1948 and enjoyed 52 years together until Chet died in 2000. Pansy was also predeceased by her son, William Michael Armistead. Survivors are her son, Gary Armistead and wife Jeanie of Arlington VA; daughter, Sandra Havriluk and husband John of Norcross GA; son, Chris Armistead and wife Kathy of Decatur GA; her ten grandchildren, including Joe Armistead of Grayson GA, Leslie Brooking of Woodstock GA, Jonathan Armistead of Lilburn GA; Allyson McClinch of Arlington VA, Patrick Armistead of Arlington VA, Jennifer Johnson of Baltimore MD, Kristen Havriluk and Amanda Havriluk of Norcross GA, Feeney Armistead of Athens GA, and Lia Armistead of Decatur GA; along with her four great-grandchildren, Saige, Brynna, and Alexa Armistead of Grayson GA, and Henry Armistead of Baltimore MD. Also surviving Pansy is her precious dog, Lulu. The Armistead family will be eternally grateful to her dedicated caregiver, Lynn Puerto, who was at her side for the last three years. Pansy lived a simple and traditional life as a Christian wife and mother who cherished God and family above all else. She was a pristinely honest woman and a loyal friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sending greeting cards decorated with stickers, walking on the beach, watching "General Hospital," eating Krispy Kreme doughnuts, planting flowers, keeping her bird feeders full, wearing clothes bedecked with sequins and sparkles, and draping jangly bracelets from her arms. Her family will miss her delicious Southern cooking, Christmas Eve gatherings, and her nonjudgmental love, yet they take comfort she will reunite in Heaven with her many loved ones who have been waiting for her there. "We'll love and remember you always, Pantz." Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons with Rev. John Wolfe officiating. Interment will be at 1:15 p.m. at Little River United Methodist Church Cemetery in Woodstock GA. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to an Animal Rescue or Human Society of your choice. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
