Patricia Ann Mattson

July 29, 1953 — December 23, 2023

Skippy Mattson, 70, of Brookhaven, Georgia, passed away December 23, 2023 at Northside Hospital with her husband of of 42 years by her side. Skippy was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer on December 23rd, 2022. She is survived by her loving husband, Greg, dogs Luna and Lucky, sisters Suzzie, Carol, Barbara, and her brother Jeff.


Skippy was born in Morristown, New Jersey on July 29, 1953. She attended college at Slippery Rock University and later transferred to Penn State University. She began her career as a Certified Athletic Trainer until she was named head women's coach at James Madison University. From there she returned to school and obtained her degree as a Physical Therapist. Skippy worked for Emory University, and was privileged to be an integral part of the US Swimming Team and the USOC at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. She was able to travel with the US Swim Team to events around the world, including the Olympic Festival in St. Louis, World University Games in Japan, World Championships in Rome and Australia.Her favorite memory was a trip to Paris with the US Junior Swim Team.


Skippy was currently employed at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta where she worked with young athletes to help them reach their full potential by working with the athlete, their parents, coaches, and professionals when necessary.


Skippy was an avid outdoors person who, like in everything else she did, strived to be the best she could be, winning a Bud Light Triathlon as an amateur in 1984. She was an avid rock climber as well as scuba diver and physical fitness enthusiast. Traveling was her greatest joy and the Southwest was her favorite location. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and admired her.


In lieu of flowers, Skippy has asked that donations be made to Dynamo Swim Club, which has been a part of her family for 40 years.
