Paul Edward Nuckols

January 27, 1926 — December 23, 2019

Paul Edward Nuckols was born January 27, 1926, the son of Nell Sleet Nuckols and Paul Nuckols , Sr. in Middlesboro, Kentucky where he lived and grew up. A member of the Greatest Generation, in 1944 he enlisted in the Army and was trained as a demolitions expert, serving in both France and then Germany, planting explosives under key bridges. After the war, he was honorably discharged and returned to Lexington, Kentucky where he attended the University of Kentucky and majored in Arts and Sciences. He was an active member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Moving to Atlanta in the mid-1950’s he began a successful career in sales of rolled sheet steel, first with U.S. Steel and later with Republic Steel.

In 1959, he met and later married Mary Ann Clark, who was his best friend and companion until her death in 2016. Together they were members of the Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Atlanta.

During his life, Paul enjoyed several pastimes including fishing, woodworking, an occasional round of golf, and a fascination with aircraft of all types. A favorite lunch spot was the Downwind Cafe in the administration building at Peachtree-Dekalb airport where he would marvel at all of the corporate jets.

Paul Nuckols passed on December 23, 2019. He was 93. He was a credit to his generation and served as an excellent example for his family in every way. Never without a smile or a laugh, his easy style of self-deprecating humor was appreciated by all.
