Flying continued to be one of his favorite past times and he owned and flew light aircraft until he was 88 years old. He was a member of the United Flying Octogenarians, a group of pilots who flew an airplane after their 80th birthday. He was awarded the FAA’s Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award for 50 years of safe flying.
