Ray Henderson

Ray Henderson was an outlaw in his own mind, 10 feet tall and bulletproof in a five-foot-seven and shrinking frame.  He knew how to connect with people, whether under the hood of a Cadillac or in the back room of a store refinishing a piece of furniture. “The only things Daddy can’t fix,” he’d say, “are a broken heart and overdrawn checking account.”

He was easy to love, slow to forgive, and hard to forget: a stubborn and self-proclaimed country boy who loved fast cars and old guitars and was above all one hell of a storyteller.  Some of them were even true. When he told you that you were beautiful, or smart, or capable, you believed that, too, and because he said it, you were.

Ray is survived by three daughters -- Lisa Stromberg, Angie Henderson Moncada, and Sara Henderson -- who’ve wrestled with life and become bad-ass women, in no small part because their Daddy told them they would. His six grandchildren - Clayton Stromberg, Cole Stromberg, Cassie Henriques, Haley Henderson, Elisio Moncada, and Nacine Moncada - carry on his love of music, gift of telling stories, and passion for classic cars. He is also survived by his former wives and mothers of his children, Joy Darling and Linda Tucker, and other loves in his life.

He graduated from Clarkston High School in 1965 where he was an artist and dedicated member of the yearbook staff. He lived in Stone Mountain and later Buford, Georgia where he shared his gifts for fixing anything - usually with superglue - and building things from scratch, including community. He was a collector of many marvelous things, a passionate (and later patio) gardener, the loudest Wolf in the stands, and a devoted Georgia Dawg.  

A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  

“A place for everything and everything in its place,” Ray will rest in peace with his parents, Herman and Ruby Henderson in East View Cemetery, in Conyers, Georgia.
