Rayford Albert Taylor was born June 23, 1929 in Lithonia, Georgia to Mr. Raymond Taylor and Mrs. Gladys Mobley Taylor. He graduated from SW DeKalb High School. He was very active in basketball, track and football and was voted "Most Athletic" in his Senior class. He attended Berry College and later joined the US Army. He attended Faith Tabernacle Church in Conyers, GA. His hobbies were woodworking, motorcycles, beach, watching wrestling, family, pets, reading his bible, football, teaching, spreading the word and advising his grandchildren. Rayford was employed by R. L. Mathis Dairy where he retired after fifty years of outstanding service. He was also employed at AJC Paper, Beltone Hearing, and later with his wife became an entrepreneur and owner operating two "Nanny's Childcare Centers" in Decatur and Norcross where he was known as "Paw".
On Sunday, September 2, 2012 this beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend who was called to Heaven to be with the Lord. He had fulfilled his calling and was summoned from this battlefield of life to eternal joy and peace with God. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Gladys Taylor, his first wife of 30 years, Martha Fern Worley Taylor, a sister, Phyllis Taylor Crim and a brother, David Taylor. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife of 28 years, Ruth Anne Massey Taylor; five daughters, Paulette (Danny) Wallace, Pauline Lietch, Kim (Lee) Eskew, Renee (Steve) Spears, Michelle (Jeff) Hardeman; six sons, Ty (Barbara) Taylor, Jason (Dawn) Coleman, Shawn Coleman, Joey Jones, Ryan Coleman, and James Coleman; 25 grand- children, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday Sept. 6 in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons with Rev Jerry Patterson officiating, with interment to follow in Resthaven Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory
