Rev. Dr. Madge Black Floyd

September 23, 1935 — March 10, 2005

Rev. Dr. Madge Black Floyd of Pennsylvania, formerly of Atlanta, died March 10, 2005. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia to William Howard and Nena Estes Black. Dr. Floyd attended the Westminster School and Emory University, where she received a BA degree in Bible and Religion. She was an accomplished musician in her youth and one of her mentors was Ethel Byers of Atlanta, GA. In 1984 Dr. Floyd was appointed the first woman District Superintendent in the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was District Superintendent of the Pittsburg District for six years. In 1990 she came to Clarion First United Methodist Church in Pennsylvania, where she served as senior pastor until retirement in 1999. Dr. Floyd is survived by two children and their spouses; daughter, Christine Fisher and her husband Steven of Erie, PA; son, Carl Floyd III and his wife Sherron of Portersville, PA; five grandchildren, Rachael, Kresten and Corey Fisher of Erie, PA and Clayton and Logan Floyd of Portersville, PA; two sisters, Beth Black of Lilburn, GA and Judy Vinson of Fort Valley, GA; one niece and several nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 16th at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, GA with Rev. Bill Roane officiating.
