Richard Loehle

Well-known Atlanta artist Richard Loehle died of cancer on February 14. Mr. Loehle was the son of the late Herbert Carl and Marie Edwards Loehle. He was born on March 9, 1923, and grew up in East Point, Ga. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty, children Craig, Alan, Bruce, and Lynn, six grandchildren, Sholeh, Gloria, Niki and Zack Loehle, and Evan and Ross Loehle-Conger, his sister Peggy Rafter, and many nieces and nephews. He served in the Army Air Force Cartography unit in China during WWII. His career began as an illustrator of books and readers, branched out into many years of painting rural, old-South, and western landscapes, and culminated in decades of portrait work. He was the portraitist for over 50 airmen inducted into the Air Force Air Museum in Warner Robbins Ga. He was an avid tennis player into his 80s and was ranked number 1 in the state in 2004 in his age group. His science fiction book Bonobos is available from ExLibris publ.
