Robert Allen Shults, age 50, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on June 17, 2020 after a long and courageous struggle with brain cancer. Robert was born on September 27, 1969 in Roanoke, Virginia. He spent his childhood in Salem and Marion, Virginia and graduated from Marion Senior High School in 1987. He earned a tennis scholarship to the Virginia Military Institute, graduating with a bachelor's degree in economics and business in 1991. Robert pursued a career in the technology industry and worked for Intel Corporation for 21 years in the education and government sectors in various sales and marketing roles. Robert was an exceptional individual and professional who exhibited incredible passion, optimism, kindness and joy throughout his career. He received numerous awards and recognition for his incredible spirit, innovation and overall impact to the business. He leaves an enduring legacy of friendships with colleagues and clients alike. Robert married Claire Elizabeth Furches in a beach-side ceremony in Kauai, Hawaii on April 26, 2006. They have one son, Logan Robert Shults, age 6. Robert was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Atlanta, and Robert volunteered at the Center for the Visually Impaired. Robert experienced life with vigor and enjoyed physical fitness, playing guitar, reading, traveling, food, wine, and most of all spending time with family and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his step-mother, Anne Washburn Shults. He is survived by his loving wife and son, Claire and Logan, as well as his father Robert McFarland Shults, mother Margaret Jean Gough, sisters Sally Elizabeth Shults, Margaret Shults Scimone and husband Stephen, Kristen Surber Leaman and husband Brian, and Kelly Anne Surber. The family will hold a visitation at A.S. Turner & Sons in Decatur, Georgia, on Sunday, July 26, 2020 between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Private funeral services will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Atlanta or Kate's Club, an Atlanta nonprofit that supports children who have lost a parent or sibling.
