Robert (Bob) Winn Pitt

May 29, 1940 — December 24, 2016

Robert Winn Pitt (Bob) was born to Joe and Emily Pitt in Old Hickory, Tennessee on May 29, 1940. He died peacefully, with his children and wife surrounding him, in Atlanta, Georgia on December 24, 2016. Bob battled for nearly seven years with the rare and cruel brain disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

Bob is survived by his wife, Karen, his three children and their spouses, Jennifer (Andy) Mueller, Rebecca (Patrick) Miller, and Joseph (Clio) Pitt, and his sisters, Suzanne (Tony) Frisina and Sally (Bob) Daniel. There are presently five grandchildren, Lily, Julian, and Sophia Miller and Owen and Edie Mueller.

Bob will be remembered as a loving husband, father, family member, and friend with a quick wit and wicked sense of humor. He loved music of all kinds, often being touched by the sentimentality of a song. Cats were his pet of choice; he loved them and included them as family in his life. He was loyal and dedicated to those he loved, keeping lifelong friends from as far back as his childhood days in Baltimore, Maryland.

Anyone who knew Bob understood that he was, above all, an artist. His career was in advertising as an art director where he was known as an exceptional talent, earning a reputation and many awards. But his true love was for painting. He said that he rarely set out to tell a story or share an insight through his artwork. His canvases “painted themselves.” Consequently, his work gives a glimpse into the creative and often juxtaposed thoughts and images that danced through Bob’s mind. The amazing artwork Bob left behind serves as a way to keep him alive through many generations.

Also a talented writer, he documented and compiled an amusing book with stories of his life, complete with photos, “for his grandchildren to remember him,” he said. Bob will never be forgotten; he left his mark on our hearts as well as his canvases and paper.
