Robert Lamar Oglesby

Robert Lamar Oglesby, 69, of Tucker passed away on Wednesday August 8, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Leslie & Lillie Belle Oglesby and his sister, Barbara Ann Oglesby. With the exception of his aunt, June Sullivan of Conyers, GA he was preceded in death by many aunts and uncles. "Lamar" as he liked to be called, grew up in Little Five Points, the son of a community grocery store owner. He played sports for and graduated from Bass High School. He then attended and graduated from Mercer University in Macon. He went on to earn his Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. He returned to Atlanta and then graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary. He helped to initiate the Seminary begun at Mercer-Atlanta and taught theology. He is survived by his only son, Robert Christopher Oglesby, Robert's wife, Tina JoAnn Oglesby, Roberts's mother, Lydia Alice Oglesby, all of Tucker; grandchildren, Amanda Miller and her husband (Tim) of Snellville and Corey Brown and his wife, (Emily) of Jasper; and also great grandson's Timothy Miller of Snellville and Ele"xander" Brown of Jasper .He also had numerous cousins in the Atlanta area as well. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in his memory to Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, of which he was a member and also received his ordination. Donations may also be made in his memory to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra or the Woodruff Arts Center to honor his love and his support for music and the arts. Memorial services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons on Saturday August 18 at 12 noon with a small private burial to follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory
