Robert Lewis Morris

May 9, 1937 — April 4, 2010

Robert Lewis Morris died suddenly on April 4, 2010 in his own home. Bob was born May 9, 1937 in Raleigh, NC and attended Morningside Elementary School in Atlanta, GA He graduated from York Community High School in Elmhurst, IL and graduated in 1959 from Georgia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at Georgia Tech, he worked at the Engineering Experiment Station. He was a professional engineer, member of ASME, and licensed instrument rated pilot based at DeKalb Peachtree Airport in Atlanta. He married Glenda Farmer on March 19, 1961 in Doerun, Georgia. He started his own engineering business in 1967, solving unique engineering problems for a variety of national firms. Bob had autism and he saw and thought about the world in a unique fashion. This allowed him to solve problems that stumped others. Bob recognized that same uniqueness in others as well, and starting in the late 1980's he began to seek out and mentor other unique adults, "autistic cousins" he liked to call them. For many years he worked tirelessly and without much compensation to help others achieve independence and respect. Bob mentored many adults on the autism spectrum, and his premature departure will leave a void that will be hard to fill. Bob is survived by his wife Glenda, of 49 years and two sons, Randall Owen Morris and wife Sandy of Liberty, TN, Jeffrey Scott Morris of Atlanta; grandson, Christopher Young and granddaughter Kenzie M'Lynn of Liberty, TN. Bob has a sister, Firth, who lives in Alexandria, Virginia. There will be a service at AS Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur (http://www.asturner.com) at 10 AM on Friday, April 9. The family will receive friends from 9 - 10 AM Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons
