Robert Morris Youngblood

Robert Morris Youngblood, 84, of Smokerise, Georgia peacefully passed away on August 6, 2022, from cancer in the presence of his loved ones, including Dewd and Buffy, his faithful dogs.

He is the son of the late Julia Morris Youngblood and the late Robert Hubbard Youngblood. Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years; Peggy McKinney; his children, Robert (Jill) and Elizabeth Youngblood; his grandchildren, Rob, Joy, and Meg Youngblood, Johnson and Anna Boswell, Sarah Wood, and Laura (Brady) Powell; and his great-grandchildren Beckham Henderson, Charlotte Wood, and Grover Powell, as well as many relatives he loved dearly including; Mary and Dan McKinney and their family and late sister, Gail Dodd and her family.

He was born in North Augusta, South Carolina on May 20, 1938. As a toddler, he moved to Decatur, Georgia and attended Oakhurst Elementary, and graduated from Decatur High School class of 1956. Robert attended Georgia State University and went on to serve in the military. He was a commercial artist and printer for most of his adult life. On August 27, 1960, Robert married his childhood sweetheart Peggy McKinney and they welcomed two children together, Robert and Elizabeth.

Known for his adventurous spirit and sarcastic humor, Robert led quite a life. Robert experienced many adventures with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with whom he shared his love for life. Robert enjoyed his guitar, Piper Cub, motorcycle, cave diving, and skydiving. Most of all, Robert loved and enjoyed his family and friends.

The family will have a visitation on Thursday, August 11th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur.  Friday, August 12th at 11:00 AM there will be a graveside service at Decatur Cemetery for family and close friends. In honor of Robert, please wear your favorite T-shirt to the graveside service. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of Georgia.

He wasn’t one to express his emotions with a lot of words, but his actions were so grand that you never questioned his intention. It was all for love. What an absolute adventure it has been to experience life with him! He will forever serve as the benchmark for what home feels like.”
