Robert William Patterson

September 27, 1961 — July 12, 2014

Robert William Patterson, 52, of Stone Mountain Georgia died unexpectedly July 12, 2014 from a heart condition. He is survived by his two children Bridget 14 and Sean 12 and his wife of 20 years, Katie Fulford Patterson. He was born Robert William Patterson on September 27, 1961 in Savannah, Georgia to Edward Matthew Patterson and Eloise Capps Patterson. He was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his mother, age 93. He is also survived by his siblings Edward Patterson (Marjorie Dees Patterson), Mary Eloise Patterson, Evelyn Ann Burke (Larry Burke), and Michael Joseph Patterson and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Robert attended Benedictine Military School and Armstrong State College (now Armstrong Atlantic University), where he majored in Psychology. Robert went on to attend graduate school at The Georgia Institute of Technology, where he received a Ph.D. in Engineering Psychology. After graduating from Georgia Tech, he worked in the aerospace industry and most recently with the Georgia Department of Public Health. Robert was a kind and loving husband, a devoted and patient father. His life was focused on his family, his faith and his church. An active parishioner at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, he served in stewardship programs including the Lector Ministry, Theater Ministry, CMLA Basketball, Pastoral Council, and attended Eucharistic Adoration since its inception at St. Thomas More. Bridget and Sean were the light of his life and he supported and encouraged them in all aspects of their life: academics, sports, music, and in growing their faith. Robert's mother taught him to cook at an early age and he became a gifted cook and had recently begun a new hobby of home beer brewing. Robert's father instilled in him a love of music. He enjoyed everything from opera to zydeco but musical theater topped the list. The Theater Ministry was his second family and he loved performing in the parish musicals, onstage and off. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Decatur, Georgia on Friday, July 18th at 10:00 am with a reception in Mulhern Hall following the service. The family will receive visitors at the reception. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Marist School's endowment for tuition assistance. Checks may be made out to "Marist School" and mailed to 3790 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Atlanta, GA 30319. Gifts may also be made online at www.marist.com/onlinegiving. Please write "In memory of Robert Patterson" in the memo line or comments section of your gift.
