Ruth Pressley Hyers

Ruth Pressley Hyers, 67 of Tucker, died March 1, 2012. Ruth was born into a rural farm family near Norcross in 1944. She attended Cross Keys High School and then Georgia Tech. She met and married Bob Hyers who had moved to Atlanta from northern Illinois a few years earlier. They went to Fort Rucker to serve his military obligation from 1965 to 1967. Upon return, Ruth returned to Georgia Tech and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Applied Mathematics. She then worked as a programmer for a few years before beginning a family. Ruth bore and raised 2 children, Barbie (who died at age 25) and Bob, who is a world renowned materials scientist and teaches at the University of Massachusetts. Ruth has 4 grandchildren and a fabulous daughter-in-law. Although her husband retired at 57, since homemaker was Ruth's chosen profession, she was never allowed to retire, even after 47 years of a very happy marriage. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, March 9, 2012 in the chapel at Tucker First United Methodist Church, 5095 La Vista Rd, Tucker, GA 30084, 770-938-3030.
