Ruth Louise Sewell Whelchel, 94, passed away at her home in Decatur, GA on May 11, 2016. She was born on August 26, 1921 in Lone Oak, GA to Atticus Pierce and Mattie Baugh Sewell. Ruth was preceded in death by her five siblings, Oswell Sewell, Martha Sewell, Kathleen Sewell, A. Pierce Sewell, Jr., and Josephine Wells. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, L. Dan Whelchel; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy Whelchel and Fred Barnes; a niece; two nephews; and her cat, Smokey. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May14th at Decatur Cemetery, 299 Bell St. The family will receive visitors on Friday, May 13th from 2:00 – 6:00 PM at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur.
