S. John Portulas, 82, of St. Augustine, Florida and long-time resident of Atlanta, Georgia, fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, March 30, 2007 of cardiac and respiratory failure. Mr. Portulas was a native of Brunswick, Georgia, where he played football at Glynn Academy. He served in the Pacific Rim with the United States Navy as an aircraft carrier radio operator during World War II and later attended the University of Georgia before relocating to Atlanta. Mr. Portulas was a retired salesman from

National Distributing Company in Atlanta, where he was honored with a distinguished salesman award. Upon retiring Mr. Portulas spent several more years devoting his time to the American Red Cross. He was a member of the Atlanta Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where he served for many years on the Parish Council, as Parish Treasurer and as a Sunday School Father, and he participated in the Cathedral's many stage productions. He loved sports, especially football and tennis, and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him for his fun-loving nature, wonderful sense of humor, and love of music and dancing. Mr. Portulas is survived by his wife, Mary Brewer Portulas, of St. Augustine, Florida, and by his two daughters, Stasi Portulas and Vicki Portulas, of Atlanta. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 2 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in St. Augustine,

Florida with Father Nikitas Theodosian officiating, with interment at St. Larenzo cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Atlanta, Georgia.
