Sophia Malloway Papadopoulos

Sophia Papadopoulos, 91, of Charleston, SC, formerly of Atlanta passed away on Friday February 15, 2013. She was born in Newnan, Georgia, in 1921 and grew up in Atlanta. She married her husband Tony during World War II whom she met at a church picnic. Sophia grew up in the Greek Orthodox Christian Church and loved to sing in the choir. Her favorite activity in her youth was being a member of the Parthenon Society. Her faith was an important aspect of her life, and she loved nothing more than being surrounded by family. She was a wonderful cook and loved sewing, making many of her own clothes. Growing beautiful flowers was another of her many talents. Sophia and her husband owned restaurants in Atlanta for 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Papadopoulos and is survived by her three children and their spouses, Maria Brockway-Juskiewicz and John Juskiewicz, Tina and Robert Shuford, Dr. Demetry and Valerie Papadopoulos; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Jack and Traci Brockway, Anthony and Janelle Brockway, Brian and Dr. Nicole Brockway, David Shuford and Margot Hernandez, Katrina and Chad Woolery, Anthony and Allison Papadopoulos, Maria Papadopoulos; and four great-grandchildren, Wilson Brockway, Hannah Brockway, Emma Brockway, and Caroline Woolery. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 2500 Clairmont Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30329. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service to follow at A. S. Turner Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033.
