Stavroula Costarides

August 19, 1932 — November 14, 2021

Stavroula Mihaleas Costarides, age 89, of Atlanta died on November, 14, 2021. She was born in Areopoli, Mani, Laconia Greece. She emigrated to the United States in 1955. In Atlanta, Georgia she met and married her dear husband of 42 years, Peter A. Costarides. Together they embraced their new country and the opportunities that it provided. They raised a family in Atlanta and were active in the Greek Community.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Peter A. Costarides. She is also predeceased by her sisters Toula Kontoes of Atlanta, Kalliope Mihaleas, and Theodora Kouloukakos, of Athens, Greece; brothers Fotis Mihaleas and George Mihaleas of Athens, Greece.

She is survived by a large loving family: her daughter, Marina Costarides; her son and daughter-in-law, Anastasios and Anna Costarides; granddaughter, Sophia Costarides; brother and sister in law, Vasilios and Vasiliki Costarides of Atlanta and sister in laws, Louisa Costarides and Eugenia Costarides of Athens, Greece. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Stavroula (Voula) was very active throughout her life in the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation and the Philoptochos Society. In recognition of her service and devotion to the church, she received the Archangel Michael Award by Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta in 2007. She loved baking and volunteering for the Atlanta Greek Festival and the Greek pastry auction for St. Basil’s Academy. Her diples pastries were legendary and were auctioned off for as much as $1000 per tray. Proceeds from the auction were gathered to benefit orphan children of the Greek Orthodox faith.
She will always be remembered for her complete devotion to family and sweet, kind and giving spirit.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, Atlanta.
