Obituary for Thomas Napier Fulton, III

Thomas Napier Fulton, III, 71, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2018. The beloved husband of Carol Hunter Fulton, he was born on December 16,1946 in Atlanta, GA. He was the son of the late Thomas N. Fulton, Jr. and the late Winnie Wynn Fulton. He is also survived by his sister, Harriette Hodge Fulton (Robert Sway) of Sautee, GA, his stepson Andrew Hunter McGinnis (Laura Albritton McGinnis) and granddaughters Meredith Britton McGinnis and Laura Elizabeth McGinnis of Bartow, FL, as well as many cousins.
Tom grew up in Decatur, GA, and graduated with the Class of 1965 from Decatur High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Stetson University in 1969, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He subsequently earned a Masters degree in History from Georgia State University in 1972. Tom had a very successful career in commercial real estate in Atlanta, initially specializing in tenant representation/office leasing with AFCO Realty Associates. In 1985 he founded The Fulton Group, and had a long and satisfying career representing clients throughout the Southeast. In 1988, Tom was honored by the Atlanta Board of Realtors with The Phoenix Award for outstanding sales achievement; he was also a member of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) and received the CCIM designation (Certified Commercial Investment Member).
Tom was a passionate golfer and began his quest for the perfect swing at the age of 14. As an adult, he first belonged to Druid Hills Golf Club and for the past 25 years, Tom was a member of Cherokee Town & Country Club. Some of his most enduring friendships were formed on the golf course; throughout his recent illness, these friendships sustained him. Tom was a loyal friend, known for his wit and ever-ready jokes, and his generous spirit. Tom was one of a kind - as one friend described, he was unique in his ways, straightforward in his beliefs and everlasting in giving himself in friendship.
An avid reader, Tom was also a life-long birder and a student of history. In his forties, Tom began skiing and he and Carol enjoyed many great ski trips to New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Montana with family and friends. Tom was also an ardent Georgia Bulldog fan. In the mid- 1990’s, Tom and Carol began to restore a family property in Newton County originally purchased by his great grandfather in 1905. Wynnwood Farm became a much loved retreat for both of them. But apart from family, his greatest love was reserved for his canine buddies. Tom’s “lifelist” of dogs - Jerry, Flash, Two Roads, Max, Jackson, Molly, Smedley, Bear, Missy and Jake were his constant companions, ever beside him on their daily walks, chasing golf balls or sleeping at his feet.
A memorial service and reception in celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal, 4140 Clark Street SW, Covington, GA 30014.
