Thomas "Tommy" J. Westbrook

April 12, 1947 — November 5, 2018

Thomas "Tom" Jerome Westbrook, aged 71, passed peacefully at home on November 5, 2018. Tom was born at Emory University Hospital in Decatur, GA, on April 12, 1947, to his parents Samuel and Lillie Jo Westbrook. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1965. Tom was accepted into the University of Georgia and joined the Kappa Sigma fraternity, graduating with a BBA in Accounting. He started his career with Peat, Marwick, and Mitchell, and shortly after served in the army for two years in Hawaii. He returned and then subsequently opened his own firm: Owens and Westbrook, that became Westbrook, McGrath, and Gibson CPA, which was later renamed as WMBO CPA group. He will be dearly missed by his clients, many of whom he’s had since the beginning.
Tommy was the proud father of Kelly and Amy, whose mother, Linda, they lost to cancer in 1991. Tommy and Judy Gwin had a friendship that blossomed into a deep and loving relationship. They married each other in 1993 and shared an enduring bond that brought their lives together happily over the next 25 years. Tommy and his girls gained a family consisting of Judy’s children Brett and Mary, and her siblings that came together as one. Most recently, Tommy and Judy spent time vacationing in Europe, and Tommy just got back from a trip to Las Vegas, which he enjoyed regularly. Along with his love of travel, the family had a yearly trip planned for one of his favorite places, the beach. He loved the sand, sea, and sun! Tommy enjoyed playing tennis, golf, baseball, and football, and when he wasn't playing the games, he was watching them. Tommy was a huge Georgia Bulldogs fan, and thoroughly enjoyed cheering on his Alma Mater. How do you describe such a wonderful man? He was incredibly smart, although he couldn't quite figure out how to be the handyman at home. He was witty, sharp, and relentlessly funny, always upbeat and you could see the rays of the sun shining right through him. Possibly one of his best qualities was his dependability, quickly followed by his unwavering joy for life. Tommy had a tendency to be impatient, but it helped him to be a wonderful CPA. If you were a friend of Tommy, you knew it because he gave you a nickname. Tom was affectionately called Tommy, Toppy, and Granddaddy. Tommy was a marvelous husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He had a tremendous fellowship of friends who adored him and will miss him terribly.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Jerome and Lillie Jo Westbrook. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Westbrook; his daughters, Kelly Robinson (spouse David Robinson) and Amy Carlile (spouse Chase Carlile); his step-children, Mary Higbie and Brett Gillespie (spouse Jennifer Gillespie); his sister, Jan Dorris (spouse Tommy Dorris); his nephews, Grant Dorris and Greg Dorris; and his 8 grandchildren: Sam and Madison Robinson; Neko and Wren Carlile; Christopher Higbie; Brittany, Corteney, and Brooklyn Gillespie; and two great-grandchildren, Kayden and Jackson.
Visitation will be held at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services for Tommy will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 2:00 PM in the chapel. Following the funeral service, interment will be held at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA.
