Viola Ayers

Viola Naddra Ayers, beloved mother and grandmother, fell asleep in the Lord on April 22, 2008. She was born December 2, 1911 in Ashtabula, Ohio. She was predeceased by her husband, George Ayers, daughter, Faye Sophy, and son, George Ayers, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Karakos; her son and daughter-in-law, Ellis and Joni Ayers; her sister, Josephine Shampine; grandchildren Michael Karakos and Jennifer Haygood, Christina and John Gagne, Alexandra and Todd King, Anne Marie and Pat Quinn, Lisa Sophy, George and Mary Sophy, Eddie Ayers, Steve Ayers, Jason and Venus Ayers, Nicole and Mark Sims; great-grandchildren Alexander and Matthew Quinn, Brae Elise and McKinley Ayers, Ashley Ayers, and Ellis Sims; nieces Anne Owens and Laura Kaye. Other survivors include Carol Karafotias, George and Kally Karakos as well as many close friends. One of five daughters of Leo and Anna Naddra, she was a proprietor in a family business, Naddra's Grocery in Ashtabula, Ohio, for 50 years. She also worked alongside her husband George for 25 years in their Atlanta restaurant, George's. She was an active and dedicated member of St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church and a tireless worker for St. Mary's Ladies Society. An avid reader and traveler, she was also known for her flawless memory, able to recount birthdays and memorable dates of everyone she knew. She will be terribly missed by all who loved and knew her. Funeral services will be held on Saturday  April 26, 2008 at St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2045 Ponce de Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA at 12 pm with The Right Reverend, Archimandrite Michael Evans officiating. Interment at Floral Hills Memory Gardens will follow the service. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 25 from 4-7 pm at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA. A Trisiagion prayer service will be held at 6pm in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be in made in her memory to the St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church Building Fund.  A. S. Turner & Sons
