Virginia Ruth Roberts

October 6, 1937 — September 17, 2020

Mrs. Virginia Ruth Roberts, 82, of Bethlehem, Georgia, passed away in her home on September 17, 2020. Mrs. Roberts was born October 6, 1937 in Florence, South Carolina, daughter of the late James Benjamin Simpson and Ada Mae King Simpson. She married Hollis Earl Roberts, a wholesale car industry worker, and loving husband. They were happily married up to his death in 2008.
Virginia was the epitome of a boy’s mom. She supported and loved her three boys through their childhood tumbles, and adult challenges. She was a constant in their lives, always giving them unconditional love, even to her last breath. Her compassionate and empathetic heart gave her strength while caring for both her mother and husband in sicknesses, bringing them comfort and love to the end. An avid camper with a passion for Florida scenery, she and Hollis traveled the southeast enjoying the simple pleasures of life. She loved to cruise the oceans and see new parts of the world. A strong and independent professional woman, she began working in the finance department, working her way up through Fleet Sales, and retired as a Sales Manager with Leiphart Chevrolet in Decatur, Georgia. As an aunt, she was an excellent role model of courage and grace, displaying the tenacity of a lion. She was an avid NASCAR and Atlanta sports teams fan. She enjoyed playing the piano as a child and continued nurturing this talent throughout her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis Earl Roberts, and son, Jeffery Scott Roberts.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry A. “Butch” Glawson and James “Randy” Glawson; three grandsons, Gregory Glawson, Jarred Glawson, and Ryan Glawson; and two great-grandsons; brothers Jimmy Simpson of Georgia, and Tommy Simpson of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will gather at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur on Sunday, September 20, 2020 to receive friends, beginning at 10 a.m. A graveside service officiated by Dr. Frank Crumpler will begin at 2 p.m., at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker, Georgia.
