William Dale Hawes

July 11, 1935 — February 3, 2015

William Bill Dale Hawes, 79, residing in Tucker, Georgia, passed, February 3, 2015. He was born to the late Edmund and Bonita Hawes, July 11, 1935, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Bill graduated from high school at Tabor Academy in Marion, MA in 1954, and from Williams College in Williamstown, MA in 1958, and received a BA in Economics. He married the late Kathleen Schwartzwalder in 1975, and they resided in Tucker. Bill was an Independent Insurance Agent until he retired in 2008. Throughout his career, he held several Chairmanships for the Association of Independent Insurance Agents, which included Director, Sr. Director, Secretary/Treasurer, Vice-President, and President. Bill was honored with several awards, such as: Chairman of the Year Award, President's Citation, and the Edgar Dunlap Award for Outstanding Community Service. Bill was an active member of Tucker First United Methodist Church, Past President of the Stone Mountain Rotary Club, Salvation Army Advisory Board, and numerous DeKalb County Committees. Winner of the Stargazer Small Business of the Year, Outstanding Leadership School/Community Relations Award, Rotarian of the Year, Listed Who's Who South and Southwest 21st and 22nd editions, and Who's Who World Wide 1992. The Georgia Piedmont Technical College honored him with an annual award titled The William Hawes Lifetime Achievement Award. His selfless and tireless contributions are countless. No star ever shined more brightly than Bill's life, led with honesty, humor, intelligence and compassion. A generous, loyal and caring man that loved his community, his church and most of all his family. Bill is survived by his sister, Edna Hawes; his five children, Christine Jennison, Kathleen Mueller, Bonita Miller, William Hawes Jr., and Elizabeth Eastman; his four grandchildren, Jack Mueller, Shannan Mueller, Mackenzie Miller, and Addison Miller; and his two beagles, Erin and Dixie. Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Tucker First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
