William Doyle Brodnax

William Doyle Brodnax, 73, of Atlanta passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021. Born at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Billy grew up in Decatur with his parents, Tom and Edna Mae Brodnax, his brother Jimmy, and his sisters, Beth and Fran. Billy graduated from Decatur High School, where he met the love of his life, Cheryl. He married his high school sweetheart in 1968, then went on to graduate from West Georgia University. Billy had a long career with Brodnax Cartage, where he retired as President in 2006. His retirement allowed him to spend more time in the place he loved most the gorgeous farm he and Cheryl built in Dawsonville. He was always quick to help friends and neighbors around the farm and could often be found driving around on his tractor (Big Blue). He was wonderfully loyal and counted among his close friend’s people he’d known since childhood. He loved his children and grandchildren, and he and Cheryl would often host them for family farm days, the most recent of which they celebrated just a month ago. He constantly had a beloved dog by his side; his breed of choice was Blue Heelers, but he also loved Cheryl’s Labradors. Billy is preceded in death by his father, Tom Brodnax; his mother, Edna Mae Brodnax; his sisters, Beth Clarke and Fran Frantz; and his son-in-law, Richard Caffrey. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Logan Brodnax; his brother, James (Peggy) Brodnax of Duluth; his sons, Tom (Meredith) Brodnax of Vidalia and Keene (Elizabeth) Brodnax of Atlanta; and his daughter, Jennifer Caffrey of Marietta. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Johnathan, Nicholas, Tucker, Anna Porter, and Katie Lee. A graveside service at Decatur Cemetry will take place on Saturday, November 13 @ 12 noon with a celebration of life to take place later in the month. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dawson County Humane Society in Dawsonville.
