William Floyd Parker, Sr.

December 5, 1915 — January 9, 2008

William Floyd Parker, Sr. of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away January 9, 2008.  He was born December 5, 1915 in Phenix City, Alabama to the late James L. and Maggie DeLoach Parker and was the youngest of six children.  He is pre-deceased by his wife of 53 years Margarette Hicks Parker and son William F. Parker, Jr. and two granddaughters, Julie and Vikki Parker.  He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Gloria (Bunny) and Ted Teale of St. Simons Island, Georgia, and Margarette (Missy) and Ray Massey of Big Canoe, Georgia as well as seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Floyd grew up in Columbus, Georgia and worked during the depression era of the 1930s for the Georgia Power Company.  He worked for the Army Corp of Engineers on the Panama Canal project during World War II and for Carrier Air Company in the US after the war.  Floyd joined the Atlantic Chemical and Equipment Company in the early 1950s and worked there 45 satisfying years before his retirement in the mid-1990s.  He was a faithful member of Briarlake Baptist Church for 46 years where he was also a member of the Businessmen's Bible Class.  Floyd's faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ his Savior gave him a strong purpose of conviction and this creed was the basis upon which he lived.  Many people can be of help when times are good; however Floyd was unique in that he was a strong, stabling influence for family and friends in times of trouble.  It is normal for family and friends to become separated by physical distance, but Floyd always made sure his loved ones stayed connected emotionally?he was the consummate pillar of his family and community!  In his later years, even though Floyd's health began to fail, he never lost his zest for life; and his family is grateful for the love & kindness by his caregiver and good friend Jean Morgan. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A. M. Saturday, January 12th in the sanctuary of Briarlake Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Sullivan officiating. Interment will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration in donating to AFLAC Children's Cancer Center, 1405 Clifton Road, N.E., Atlanta, GA  30307.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
