Wilson Spearman Mobley

September 23, 1939 — February 14, 2019

Wilson S. Mobley, aged 79, passed away Feb. 14, 2019. He is survived by his sisters: Anne Montgomery of Guntersville, Alabama, and Wendy M. Patrick of Tucker; a brother, John Robert Mobley, and several nieces and nephews.
Wilson lived in England for twenty years. During his time in London, he worked for the House of Commons. He implemented the training of staff to take down official records through court reporting techniques. Up to that time, records had been taken down using old fashioned shorthand. After retiring from that position, he joined the BBC to set up their Closed Captioning system and to train transcribers.
Wilson enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to take many lovely tours and unique trips. He had a cruise on the Sea Cloud, the once private luxury yacht of the Post family. It accommodated only sixteen passengers who were pampered as though they were the wealthy owners. He took a river cruise through Russia, allowing him to see some of the rural parts as well as the usual cities. One of his favorite places was Venice.
This interest in travel manifested itself early in Wilson’s life. In his early twenties, Wilson joined “Holiday on Ice” to tour the United States skating in the show. The show played most of the major cities in the U.S. and Mexico City. It was a fun life living out of a wardrobe trunk and living a vaudevillian life.
He returned to Decatur in 2009 to be closer to family. He was much loved and will be missed.
